Iman Yang Takkan Menyerah (The Faith Which Never Give Up)

** Firman Tuhan: Markus 2:4 B **
"Lalu mereka membuka atap di atas Yesus; sesudah terbuka mereka menurunkan tikar, tempat orang lumpuh itu terbaring."

       Iman dan usaha untuk berbuat sesuatu adalah ibarat dua sisi dari sekeping mata uang yang tak terpisahkan. Tanpa ada perbuatan yang dilakukan, diragukan bahwa di situ ada iman (Yakobus 2:14-18). Bukankah perbuatan kita merupakan penampakan dari apa yang kita imani?

       Sekumpulan orang yang beriman kepada Yesus menyaksikan bagaimana Yesus mengajar dengan kuasa dan mukjizat, serta menyembuhkan orang sakit (Markus 1:21-28). Dari situ, hati mereka tergerak untuk menolong teman sekampung mereka yang sejak kecil lumpuh dan tersisih hidupnya. Mereka beriman Yesus mampu menyembuhkan maka mereka tidak diam saja. Meski banyak rintangan: mungkin rumah si lumpuh jauh, mungkin tubuhnya berat. Ditambah lagi, ketika sampai di tempat Yesus, ternyata rumah itu penuh sesak dan orang-orang tak mau memberi jalan. Namun, sekali lagi iman itu mereka wujudkan dengan usaha yang pantang menyerah. Mereka membuka atap rumah, dengan risiko si empunya rumah marah. Iman yang besar kepada Yesus memampukan mereka mengatasi segala hambatan. Ketika si lumpuh diturunkan, Yesus melihat iman mereka yang mau berusaha itu dan memberi kesembuhan. Iman itu menjadi kenyataan karena anugerah Allah di dalam Kristus, bukan karena kemampuan mereka sendiri.

       Apabila kita sedang menghadapi sebuah tugas atau tantangan hidup yang butuh iman dan perjuangan keras, ingatlah kisah ini. Teguhkan iman dengan memandang kebesaran Allah yang sanggup menolong sehingga menguatkan kita untuk berjuang pantang menyerah. Serahkan ketidakberdayaan kita ke alamat yang tepat, yakni Yesus yang mampu membuat iman kita menjadi kenyataan

"and when they had brokem it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay."

       Faith and effort to do something is like two sides of a coin are inseparable. Without any action committed, it is doubtful that there is no faith (James 2: 14-18). Are not our actions is the appearance of what we believe?

       A group of people who believe in Jesus watched how Jesus taught with power and miracles and heal the sick (Mark 1: 21-28). From there, their hearts were moved to help their compatriots from childhood paralysis and marginalized life. They believed Jesus was able to heal so they do not say anything. Despite many hurdles: the house may be paralyzed much, maybe his body weight. Plus, when Jesus came to the place, the house was packed and people were not willing to give way. However, once again the faith that they embodied the effort unyielding. They opened the roof of the house, at the risk of the owner of the house angry. Great faith in Jesus enabled them to overcome all obstacles. When the paralytic lowered, Jesus saw their faith who want to try it and give healing. Faith is a reality because of the grace of God in Christ, not because of their own ability.

       If we are facing a task or life challenges that need faith and hard struggle, remember this story. Affirm faith by seeing the greatness of God's power to aid that empowers us to fight unyielding. Submit our powerlessness to the right address, that Jesus is able to make a reality of our faith.
